A Board Framework for Governing Strategic Freedom of Action

Ownership no longer settles what a firm is free to do. As strategy comes to rest on technologies, platforms and jurisdictions a firm does not control, freedom of action becomes a matter of permission others can revoke. This framework helps a board know which of its freedoms are existential, who can constrain them, and what to do before the question is forced.
